TOPIA was called upon to help conceptualize the exterior spaces for this 609-unit, five-story apartment project on the Hudson River waterfront in Yonkers, New York. The project is the the first major development of Yonkers Alexander Street Master Plan and is expected to spark a revival of this waterfront area. The project was conceived as three towers, set back from the river with a large, naturalistic esplanade making the connection to the river.
All resident amenities will be up on level, on the podium deck over parking. The two larger buildings are centered around courtyards, with one providing passive greenspace, and the other housing a more active space. The active courtyard received a swimming pool with infinity edge, a large central outdoor kitchen, several fire features, game areas and other lounge spaces.
The podium decks also received multi-level planting beds with mixed native and ornamental plantings. At the esplanade level, swirling beds of native plants and grasses intermingle with the tree lined walkways.
